The USMNT goalkeeper pool has typically been a strength for the team, but since the retirement of Tim Howard, a clear no. 1 has so far been fairly cloudy. Zack Steffen has been the top option for manager Gregg Berhalter, but Ethan Horvath has a claim to the role also.
The no. 2 keeper stepped up when Steffen went down with an injury in the Nations League final and saved a penalty to secure the win for the USMNT. Horvath is an intriguing option for the starting role, but his time on his club side Club Brugge has seen him in an out of the starting lineup.
