Bruce Arena on United States missing World Cup: 'We failed today'

Bruce Arena said there were "no excuses" for his U.S. team and admitted they "failed" on the day after a 2-1 loss to Trinidad and Tobago leaves the Americans outside looking in on the 2018 World Cup.

The U.S. likely would have secured one of the automatic CONCACAF bids or at least a spot in the intercontinental playoff against Australia with a draw, but wins from Panama and Honduras on the final matchday combined with the Americans' result left Arena's team in fifth place.

An Omar Gonzalez own goal and a wonder-strike from Alvin Jones had T&T leading at half-time, but Christian Pulisic clawed one back early for the U.
