Bobby Wood is becoming a bit of a poster-child for the kind career arc Jurgen Klinsmann seems to have in mind for American players. Rather than going to college, the Hawaiian forward set off for Europe and broke in with 1860 Munich's reserves in 2010.
He eventually worked his way to first team, into the national-team picture and eventually proved himself attractive enough for Union Berlin to plunk down a club record €800,000 transfer fee and is signed through 2018.
Wood has repaid that faith this year, scoring 14 goals -- second most in the 2. Bundesliga -- and is establishing himself as a regular with the United States national team.
