Former United States national team manager Bruce Arena would have "bet" on Matt Miazga being one of his starting center backs had the nation qualified for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
The U.S. failed to make it to Russia for this summer's showpiece after a shock defeat to Trinidad and Tobago on the final day of CONCACAF World Cup qualifying, when a draw would have been enough to see it through.
The result saw the resignation of Arena, who stepped into the national team managerial role after Jurgen Klinsmann was fired two games into the Hexagonal.
