USWNT players part ways with union counsel Rich Nichols

The U.S. women's national team players association announced the departure of its counsel amid negotiations of a new collective bargaining agreement.

The U.S. women's national team players announced the departure of union counsel Rich Nichols on Wednesday, four days before the expiration of their collective bargaining agreement with U.S. Soccer.

Nichols, who was named executive director of the players association in late 2014, had been representing the union in negotiations of a new CBA. The talks have come amid high-profile accusations of wage discrimination from the U.S. players.

"We thank Rich for his service, and wish him well," the players association said in a statement.
