The United States began their 2016 calendar with a dramatic 3-2 victory over Iceland on a rainy-then-sunny Sunday afternoon in Carson.
Despite enjoying the lion's share of possession in the first half, the U.S. fell behind early on an unlucky deflected shot that bounced past a helpless Luis Robles and into a gaping net.
The Americans played a disciplined and organized game in the first half, keeping pressure on Iceland. If not for some wasted chances in front of goal, they could have went into the half-time break with a lead. Instead it would be all square after Jozy Altidore finished off a lovely passing sequence that also involved Gyasi Zardes and Michael Bradley.
