Kenyan Premier League champions Gor Mahia opened a nine-point gap at the top of the table after defeating Ulinzi Stars 2-1 at Afraha Stadium, Nakuru.
The defending champions needed just 25 seconds to get the first goal courtesy of Ugandan Erisa Ssekisambu who headed in a Francis Mustafa cross.
Mustafa could have doubled the advantage in the 14th minute, but with plenty of space outside the 18-yard area, he could not hit the target.
The Soldiers pushed for an equalizer, and in the 21st minute, they almost got it. Brian Birgen surged forward and almost capitalized on Oscar Wamalwa's low cross, but Shaban Odhoji managed to punch the ball and Joash Onyango eventually cleared the danger.
