The 2018 U17 Women’s World Cup runs from November 13 to December 1 this year in Uruguay. There’s more pressure on the U17s to perform given recent notable subpar results in the WNT youth program, in particular the U20s going out in group at their own World Cup earlier this past summer. Perhaps that’s unfair to the U17s, an entirely different team with a different coach, but the truth is failure here will (and should) be read as part of a systemic problem within the youth system, a system that USSF has said it wanted to normalize so that principles taught to youth players would fall in line with principles of success for the full senior team, allowing easier transition from youth to senior level.
