Steven Bergwijn has revealed that he promised to score on his Tottenham debut for childhood friend and fellow Ajax academy product Appie Nouri.
Nouri suffered a cardiac arrest during a friendly game in 2017. He survived, but suffered permanent brain damage as a result.
Bergwijn, who played with Nouri for six years in Ajax’s academy before leaving for PSV, says he had a conversation with Mohammed Nouri, Appie’s younger brother, prior to his Premier League debut against Manchester City in which he scored the game’s opening goal.
