Former player Kate Markgraf will be the first general manager of the U.S. women's national soccer team, U.S. Soccer announced Monday.
Markgraf won a World Cup as a member of the USWNT in 1999 as well as two Olympic gold medals and earned 201 caps with the program.
As the first GM, she will have to find a replacement for coach Jill Ellis, who has stepped down after leading the national team to consecutive World Cup titles.
Additionally, U.S. Soccer is embroiled in an equal-pay lawsuit brought by 28 women's players.
Markgraf has served as a commentator for ESPN and ABC, including during this year's World Cup.
