Christie Rampone withdraws from USWNT camp

The 40-year-old says she isn't at the physical level necessary to compete for a spot at the Olympics.

It would appear Christie Rampone has given up hope of competing in a fifth Olympic Games.

The 40-year-old U.S. national team veteran withdrew from the camp called in for upcoming friendlies against Japan, saying she is not at the physical level necessary to compete for a spot in Brazil this summer.

Rampone, who has compiled 311 caps and won three Olympic gold medals, has not appeared for the U.S. since undergoing knee surgery in December but has played six matches for Sky Blue FC to kick off the NWSL campaign and was named to Jill Ellis' 25-player roster announced last week.
