The accomplished French coach had been linked with the South Africa coaching job two years ago after Safa parted ways with Ephraim 'Shakes' Mashaba.
The vacancy was eventually filled by British coach Stuart Baxter, who has since guided Bafana to the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) finals in Egypt.
Safa was reportedly put off by Renard's salary demands.
“This was in the past. Of course, I am not cheap,” Renard told the media.
The 50-year-old was speaking ahead of Morocco's clash with South Africa in their final 2019 Afcon Group D match at the Al-Salam Stadium on Monday.
