Woman had dozens of animals in Hamden, police say, including rats, cats and a dead woodchuck

Police said they arrested a woman after dozens of animals, some dead, were found in her Hamden home, including 28 cats, two squirrels, a woodchuck and two rats.

Donna Scirocco, 59, was charged Tuesday with six counts of cruelty to animals, they said. Her bail was set at $5,000 and her court date was scheduled for Feb. 5.

According to police, animal control officers from Hamden worked with their counterparts at the state level and in four other towns on an investigation of Scirocco.
