Woman dead, man injured, after pre-dawn New Haven fire

A woman is dead and a man is injured after a two-alarm fire early Monday in a multi-family house in New Haven.

The fire at 151 Saltonstall Ave. displaced a dozen people — seven adults and five children, said Rick Fontana, director of the Office of Emergency Management.

The fire was reported shortly after 1:30 a.m., and fire officials called for a second team of firefighters and equipment at 1:50 a.m., he said. Firefighters rescued a woman and a man from the burning building, but the woman was pronounced dead. The woman was in her 40s, fire officials said.
