An Alabama woman accused of murdering her boyfriend earlier this month in Middletown told police she acted in self-defense when her boyfriend attacked her during a fight in their new apartment, new court records show.
Melody Jean Christensen, 44, told detectives her boyfriend swung at her while she tried to defend herself with her own revolver, causing her to shoot herself, before she turned the gun on him, according to an arrest warrant affidavit unsealed Friday and released publicly for the first time.
But detectives disagreed, concluding that an autopsy showed it was actually Christensen’s boyfriend who had signs of defensive wounds and that her retelling of the events that night included several inconsistencies with the crime scene itself, the records show.
