As it tries to build a new layer of police accountability, West Hartford is about to start a key job: Choosing who will serve on its civilian review board.
Between now and late June, the council expects to name seven members and another three alternates. West Hartford hasn’t adopted guidelines on how it will choose them, but Mayor Shari Cantor this week cited a few qualities in applicants that will be important.
“People with time and a genuine interest, people who have the ability to listen and who are fair and impartial,” she said. “People who are willing to stand by the board’s decision in the face of potential controversy or adversity.
