Waterbury police have identified and are searching for the suspect in the July 4 beheading of the Christopher Columbus statue that stands in front of city hall. Police say they identified the suspect after he tried to sell the statue’s nose.
Waterbury police discovered the statue beheading at about 5:30 a.m. on July 4. When they arrived at city hall on Waterbury’s Grand Street, officers saw that the head of the statue had been broken off and was lying on the ground.
