Waterbury man drowns in Farmington River

The man, who was not immediately identified, was last seen going under water about 20 feet from the shore just prior to 1:40 p.m., when friends he was with called 911.,

A state police dive team was called to the scene and recovered the man’s body in about 20 feet of water at 4:30 p.m.

Farmington police Lt. Tim McKenzie cautioned “swimmers in the Farmington River during this time of year to use life jackets or other flotation devices due to the cold temperature of the water, which can quickly incapacitate swimmers of all abilities.”
