Wallingford man dies after rear-ending tractor trailer on I-95 in New Haven

A Wallingford man has died after an accident involving a tractor trailer early Sunday morning, Connecticut State Police said.

Police received multiple 911 calls around 2:13 a.m. Sunday after a car slammed into a tractor trailer on I-95 North, just south of the Exit 46 off-ramp in New Haven. Police say the tractor trailer was slowing for upcoming construction traffic when it was rear-ended by a 2015 Kia Optima LX driven at a “high rate of speed.”

The driver and sole occupant of the car, 20-year-old Michael Reilly of Wallingford, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the tractor trailer was not injured.
