Since graduating from UConn, Breanna Stewart has used her platform as one of women’s basketball’s biggest stars to promote various social justice causes.
However, her most important contribution came earlier this week when she joined the #MeToo campaign, a movement to show how widespread the issue of sexual assault and harassment is.
In an article on The Players’ Tribune, Stewart revealed that she had been molested as a child for years. She said she made the decision to let the world know after learning about Olympic gymnast McKayla Maroney’s account of sexual abuse as well as other brave stories marked with the #MeToo hashtag on social media.
