An 18-year-old who Vernon police said pointed a gun at a teenager’s face in broad daylight last month and pulled the trigger has been arrested, police said.
Trenton Merrill turned himself in at the Vernon police station Tuesday morning on charges that include criminal attempt to commit murder, they said. The charge could have been murder if the teen at the other end of the Merrill’s gun hadn’t whacked the weapon a split second before it fired.
Merrill, of 157 Union St., also was charged with second-degree assault with a firearm because he and a conspirator had pistol-whipped the teen before he fired the shot, police said.
