Long swaths of northern and eastern Connecticut are now experiencing an “extreme drought,” the second-driest level, the U.S. Drought Monitor said Thursday.
The latest drought map shows most of Windham County, the eastern part of New London County, the northern part of Tolland County and most of northern Hartford County – 14.6% of the state -- are experiencing the extreme dryness.
The rest of Hartford County is mostly in severe drought, which is less serious. The highest level is exceptional drought; an urgent level of dryness that is so unusual, Connecticut has little or no experience with it, the monitor said.
