The University of Connecticut’s women’s basketball team is the sports dynasty no one discusses. They have five NCAA titles in seven seasons, and as many trips to the White House during President Obama’s two terms. While Lady Huskies’ fans are spoiled by these championship wins, the highest ranking women’s college basketball program knows there are no guarantees.
Recently, I sat down with UConn’s assistant coach, Marisa Moseley. During our conversation she shared details of her coaching journey, and what the achievements of her female peers mean for women in sports. Moseley also revealed how the great Coach Geno Auriemma keeps each team motivated; while also expressing her thoughts about the disparity between men and women’s basketball, including challenges that even the #1 NCAA women’s basketball program are not immune.
