The UConn women’s soccer team kicked off their exhibition schedule on Tuesday night with a 4-1 lightning-shortened win over the Sacred Heart Pioneers. The Huskies scored all four goals in a seven-minute span, with sophomore Sophia Danyko-Kulchycky notching two while sophomore Melina Couzis and senior Heidi Druehl also found the back of the net.
UConn was dominant, out-shooting Sacred Heart 18-1. The Pioneer’s lone goal came on a free-kick against backup keeper Mollie Kerrigan.
The game was divided into three, 30-minute periods instead of the typical 45-minute halves. Redshirt sophomore Randi Palacios played the first and third periods and appears to be entrenched as the starter, especially with freshman keeper Kelsey Kohler out for an undisclosed time with a knee injury.
