Since the inception of the American Athletic Conference, only one women’s basketball team has won the conference and should continue to do so for the foreseeable future. Despite the loss of the Breanna Stewart, Moriah Jefferson, and Morgan Tuck, the top three picks in the 2016 WNBA Draft, the UConn Huskies are once again the favorites to win according to coaches who voted in The American Preseason Poll.
UConn eaned 10 of the 11 first place votes (Geno Auriemma wasn’t allowed to vote for his own team) to get 100 points. Former UConn assistant Tanya Cardoza’s Temple Owls were second with 87 points while the USF Bulls got the other first place vote and ended up narrowly coming in at third with 86 points.
