Paige Bueckers’ first season at UConn may have come to a close on Friday night but the freshman is still collecting plenty of hardware. On Saturday, Bueckers won the Naismith Trophy and was named a WBCA All-American.
The latter officially reserves her spot in the Huskies of Honor, so long as she completes her degree and graduates. Bueckers is the 24th player and only the second freshman (along with Maya Moore) in program history to make the WBCA’s All-American team.
Bueckers is the first freshman to win the Naismith Trophy and the seventh Husky, joining Rebecca Lobo (1995), Sue Bird (2002), Diana Taurasi (2003-04), Moore (2009, 2011), Tina Charles (2010) and Breanna Stewart (2014-16).
