Paige Bueckers is officially the best point guard in the country.
On Sunday, she won the Nancy Lieberman Award, which is annually given to the nation’s top floor general. Bueckers is the first freshman ever to win the award, which has been handed out since 2000.
She’s the fifth UConn player to earn the honor, joining Sue Bird (2000-02), Diana Taurasi (2003-04), Renee Montgomery (2009) and Moriah Jefferson (2015-16). Bueckers beat out Arizona’s Aari McDonald, Baylor’s Didi Richards, Iowa’s Caitlin Clark and Syracuse’s Tiana Mangakahia for the trophy — all of whom the Huskies played in the NCAA Tournament.
