Coming into this season, most expected the UConn women’s basketball team to take a step back after losing three All Americans. However, there would be no rebuilding in Storrs as the Huskies powered their way to yet another undefeated regular season.
With the team far outperforming preseason expectations, the Associated Press named head coach Geno Auriemma the National Coach of the Year. It is the ninth time Auriemma has won the award, but the first time winning the award in back-to-back seasons.
This season, Auriemma scheduled one of the toughest non-conference schedules in the country, playing 11 NCAA Tournament teams in that span.
