Just before the UConn men’s basketball team got ready to take on St. Michael’s in an exhibition game at the XL Center, the Huskies made a final alteration to their 2019-20 roster by announcing that freshman forward Richie Springs will redshirt.
Springs will take an academic redshirt year and maintain four years of eligibility. He reclassified from the Class of 2020 to 2019 in August to commit to Dan Hurley and the Huskies. Before coming to UConn, the 6-foot-9 Springs was a consensus three-star recruit.
“UConn basketball freshman forward Richie Springs will use the 2019-20 season as an academic redshirt year,” UConn said in a statement.
