A 17-year-old and a 23-year-old are dead after they fell off an air mattress into a reservoir near the Waterbury-Prospect line Tuesday, police said.
The male victims were pulled from the East Mountain Reservoir and taken to Saint Mary’s Hospital, where they were pronounced dead, according to Waterbury Lt. David Silverio.
According to Silverio, police, fire and medical personnel were called to the reservoir about 6:40 p.m. on a report of two people who fell off some type of air mattress and may have gone below the surface. Police later learned that the air mattress capsized, after which the two struggled in the water and never returned to the surface.
