Tropical Storm Fay formed off the coast of North Carolina and is expected to bring severe storms and torrential rains to the Northeast late Friday.
A tropical storm warning was issued Thursday afternoon from Cape May, New Jersey, to Watch Hill, Rhode Island, including the Connecticut coast, Long Island and the Long Island Sound, according to the Nation Hurricane Center.
The storm is picking up speed and the center of Fay is forecast to move near the mid-Atlantic coast early Friday, into Connecticut during the afternoon Friday and then inland over the rest of New England on Saturday, according to the center's first public advisory.
