Tropical Storm Isaias made landfall overnight as a hurricane in the Carolinas before it began its march into the Northeast, where it will bring damaging winds and some heavy rain to Connecticut later today.
The storm’s impacts will vary across the state, with the western edge likely to get drenched and the eastern part largely spared heavy rain, but the entire state will be whipped by tropical-storm-force winds and gusts ranging from 50-70 mph, said Gary Lessor, chief meteorologist at Western Connecticut State University’s Connecticut Weather Center.
The worst of the storm will impact the state during a relatively brief period Tuesday afternoon and evening, and officials expect those strong winds will cause widespread power outages into late Tuesday night, according to Lessor and the National Weather Service.
