The National Weather Service on Sunday afternoon issued a tornado watch for six of Connecticut’s eight counties — Fairfield, Hartford, Litchfield, Middlesex, New Haven and Tolland counties.
The watch also extends up through Western Massachusetts, for Berkshire, Franklin, Hampden and Hampshire counties. Those counties include the cities of Greenfield, Northampton and Springfield.
The tornado watch overlaps slightly with a severe thunderstorm warning in Hartford and Tolland counties, which was in effect from 3 to 4 p.m. Sunday.
According to the National Weather Service, tornado watches indicate that an area is expected to see weather conditions that could produce a tornado.
