Hundreds gathered outside the state Capitol on Friday evening to mourn the death of George Floyd, the black Minneapolis man killed by a white police officer this week, and denounce police brutality against people of color.
The peaceful protest with state Democratic lawmakers, local Black Lives Matter groups and community leaders stood in stark contrast to the violent protests that have erupted across the country over the last several days in the wake of the latest killing by police.
There was no police presence or confrontation, only hundreds of diverse activists and supporters issuing a call to action to hold police across the country accountable and work to support forever-undermined communities of color.
