Three arrested after stolen car crash, attempted carjacking in Prospect

Police arrested three people after they crashed a stolen car in Prospect Thursday, tried to carjack a driver and ran, triggering a manhunt and a lockdown at two nearby schools.

After extensive searches, state troopers and local police arrested Jahseim Cherry, 18, of New Haven; Ciera Leshay Jones-Whitfield, 21, of New Haven and Nashaly Rodriguez-Roman, 20, of Waterbury. They were charged with interfering with police and criminal attempt to commit larceny and robbery, state police said Friday. One, Jones-Whitfield, also was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to police, shortly before 8 a.m. Thursday, a car stolen from its owner in New Haven went out of control and crashed in the area of Radio Tower and Kluge roads in Prospect.
