For at least the third time this month, a thief has stolen an idling car with a child in it in Connecticut, with the latest incident happening in Manchester, police said.
The 9-year-old girl was not injured. The thief abandoned the car when the girl, who had been sleeping in the back seat, woke up to a stranger behind the wheel and began to cry, police said.
According to police, the theft happened at the Shell gas station, 404 Hartford Road, about 9:30 p.m. The girl’s mother was inside the convenience store when a 4-door, gray sedan pulled up next to the running car.
