After an hours-long standoff, the suspect of an armed robbery at the Trumbull Mall surrendered to officers at 1:11 a.m., Bridgeport police said in a social media statement.
The incident began just after 7 p.m. Friday, when a man entered the Trumbull Mall Zales Jewelers brandishing a handgun, Trumbull police said. He used the gun to break the glass of a display case and that is when the gun went off once, but no one was injured. Police said he grabbed several gold chains.
The suspect then fled in a car, with police in pursuit, and struck one person a few blocks away near where the car ultimately crashed, Bridgeport emergency management chief Scott Appleby said.
