Less than 90 minutes from a deadly stabbing in Hartford Wednesday, police took a suspect into custody, they said.

Robert Smith, 38, of Sterling Street in Hartford was charged with murder and remains in custody on $1 million bail, police said.

Officers were called to 87 Irving St. shortly before 3 p.m., police said. When they arrived, they found Bruff suffering from numerous stab wounds. He was taken to Saint Francis Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The city’s extensive network of surveillance cameras help police identify a suspect and the car he was driving, police said, and officers took him into custody within an hour and a half of the stabbing.
