The Powder Hollow section of Scantic River State Park in Enfield closed its gates after reaching capacity shortly before 9 a.m. Sunday, and more early shutdowns are likely.

All summer long, early arrivals at state beaches and parks have been able to stay for the usual time. But once the parking lots hit their reduced capacity, staff closes gates or posts signs barring any more people from going in.
Seven state parks and beaches closed early on Saturday, including three of the most popular: Hammonasset Beach, Silver Sands and Rocky Neck.
