A 36-year-old Stratford man was killed Friday night in a volley of gunfire when local police confronted him near a highway exit and attempted to take him into custody on an outstanding arrest warrant, according to a preliminary report on the incident released Tuesday.
Christopher Hagans was shot in the head, torso, left arm and legs when multiple officers opened fire on him inside and out of his car at about 7:30 p.m. Friday near the off ramp of Exit 53 from the Merritt Parkway to Main Street in Stratford, the report reads.
The preliminary report Tuesday from Harford State’s Attorney Sharmese Walcott, who has been assigned to investigate the officers’ deadly use of force, was the first time officials publicly reported the shooting was fatal — almost four full days later.
