An elementary school in Stamford was closed Friday after a member of the school community tested positive for the coronavirus.
“We have been notified that a member of the school community has tested positive for COVID-19,” an email sent late Thursday to parents of students at Stillmeadow School reads. “In order to allow the Stamford Department of Health to complete the contact tracing protocols, we are cancelling school Friday, September 11.”
The school is among at least a half-dozen in Connecticut that have closed due to the coronavirus since students returned to classrooms in late August. The state Department of Education has offered guidance on how districts should proceed if a student or staff member tests positive for COVID-19, but has left decisions about whether or not to close up to local officials.
