SOUTH WINDSOR — The newest member of the South Windsor police force resurrects the department’s canine program and promises a quicker response to the many incidents that a highly trained dog can help resolve.
Mason, a 13-month-old German shepherd, and his partner, Officer Zachary Cosenza, are scheduled to begin a 14-week training regimen with state police on Monday.
Mason’s name honors South Windsor’s Hartford-Evergreen Masonic Lodge No. 88, which donated money covering the cost of the dog, refitting a cruiser and other resources, police spokesman Sgt. Mark Cleverdon said. The Lodge also has funded body cameras and a mountain bike unit, Cleverdon said.
