A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect until 8 p.m. Sunday for much of the state, including Hartford, Fairfield, Litchfield, Middlesex, New Haven, New London, Tolland and Windham Counties.
The U.S. National Weather Service issued a statement saying scattered thunderstorms will likely develop across Southern New England Sunday afternoon into evening, and a few strong storms may become severe.
Damaging wind gusts, dangerous lightning and large hail is possible. The greatest risk for heavier storms will be between 3-8 p.m.
