A retired state trooper who was among the first to respond to the deadly shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown in 2012 has died of COVID-19.
State police said that retired Trooper First Class Patrick Dragon, 50, of Brooklyn, Connecticut, died Saturday at Hartford Hospital.
Dragon’s family shared his struggle with illness on Facebook. On behalf of the family, Michele Hearn posted: “We are grateful for the blessing to have been able to gather together as a family to give him our love and support. We know that he is with Michael, his beloved brother, and thank you all for your prayers during this difficult time.
