A gruesome, hit-and-run collision involving a car and a bicycle on Wethersfield Avenue in Hartford shortly after nightfall Thursday left the cyclist dead and neighborhood residents calling for better traffic enforcement and more police.
Residents said the collision was part of an on-going problem of cars racing at high speed down Wethersfield Avenue and nearby streets.
“I’ve seen a lot of people get hit because they be flying up and down the street,” said Kevin Walker, a 40-year resident of the neighborhood. He said the busy artery needs more traffic enforcement, some speed bumps and a heavier police presence to deal with other quality of life issues, like drug dealing and prostitution.
