The New Britain Racial Justice Coalition staged a protest Monday evening downtown to demand more school funding in one of the state’s poorest cities.
About 20 people gathered at Central Park to hear speakers berate city leaders for flat-funding education. They also called on New Britain schools to provide better treatment of non-white students and staff.
“The school to prison pipeline is overwhelmingly apparent in New Britain High School,” said Gwendolyn Strong, a 2018 New Britain High School graduate.
“I’ve been nothing but disappointed with New Britain politicians,” she said. “While they built the new Beehive Bridge down there, our students suffered.
