A student at Quinnipiac University in Hamden has filed a lawsuit against the university, alleging that she has paid the university for services and experiences she is not receiving because the university has shifted to online courses due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Although Quinnipiac has offered partial refunds for students’ room and board, the suit also demands at least partial refunds of tuition, student services fees and lawyers’ fees.
“Despite sending students home and closing its campus(es), [Quinnipiac] continues to charge for tuition and fees as if nothing has changed,” the suit says. “So while students enrolled and paid [Quinnipiac] for a comprehensive academic experience, [Quinnipiac] instead offers [students] something far less: a limited online experience presented by Google or Zoom, void of face-to-face faculty and peer interaction, separated from program resources, and barred from facilities vital to study.
