Drivers of four stolen cars headed straight toward East Hartford police officers arriving to investigate early Thursday, forcing the officers to move to avoid crashes, police said.
At about 2:30 a.m., officers saw the vehicles on Hillside Street and determined all four had been stolen, police spokesman Lt. Josh Litwin said. Two drivers had stopped next to each other in the roadway and two others were nearby in the parking lot of the apartment complex at 30 Hillside St., Litwin said.
On seeing police, the drivers swerved recklessly, forcing the officers to take evasive action to avoid collisions, Litwin said.
