Two Southington schools are taking precautions because of police activity in their neighborhoods, a school official said Wednesday.
John F. Kennedy Middle School, 1071 South Main St., and Oshana Elementary School, 70 Church St., both in the Plantsville section of town, were placed in “secure school mode” about 9:30 or 9:45 a.m., said Timothy Connellan, superintendent of schools. Under “secure school mode,” students and teachers may move around within the schools as usual, but no one is allowed to enter or leave the buildings.
Connellan said it is his understanding that a police chase and crash happened nearby, and at least one person ran from the scene.
