Investigators believe the Branford man who opened fire Tuesday on several blocks of Main Street turned one of his weapons on himself at some point during an hourslong standoff with police.
Officials did not identify the suspect at a midday news conference, pending final autopsy results, and said they have no information about the man’s motives for the shooting or whether he was known to local police before it occurred.
“Our investigation is currently in the very early stages, there are many, many unknowns,” Branford police Deputy Chief John Alves said Wednesday. “We will formally identify the suspect pending final autopsy results from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
